The validity period of a driver’s license in the state of Missouri (MO) depends on the age of the driver and the type of document, but the standard period for adults is 6 years.
Basic provisions on expiration dates (Missouri Department of Revenue):
Standard license (for adults): Usually issued for a period of 6 years if the driver is under 70 years old.
Drivers aged 70 and over: Receive a license for a period of 3 years.
Temporary documents (for non-citizens): The validity period is limited by the validity period of the Immigration Service (INS/USCIS) documents. If the documents do not have a clear expiration date (“Duration of Stay”), the license is issued for 1 year.
REAL ID: If you receive a REAL ID (which will be required for domestic flights from May 7, 2025), it is also usually valid within the standard time limits, but requires a full package of documents with each renewal.
Important notes:
You can renew your driver’s license 6 months before the expiration date.
